Using DTM together with Scriptura
Coexistence with Scriptura
DTM V3 is available! Click here for more information
DTM will continue to be improved and supported in the future, and it offers unique capabilities that are not offered by Scriptura. For example, 5250 or Word based editing, creating modifiable merged documents, producing SCS print streams, 5250 or Word based Fill forms, are all unique to DTM's XML-based technology.
When using both DTM for iSeries and Scriptura (no matter on which platform), different paths and alternatives become available.

Use DTM for existing DTM templates and applications,
but create new advanced document templates in
Scriptura as required
Retain current DTM operations, but have the choice to design new document templates with the Scriptura Designer in a WYSIWYG graphical designer. This will drastically reduce document design time (no programming required) and offers sophisticated design features like color, business logic, dynamic images, bar codes, charts, tables and more.
The Scriptura Server is used to output resolved DTM documents (using the 'Save to Scriptura Format' feature) and new Scriptura templates to over 15 widely-used output formats, like PDF, AFP, HTML, PCL, PS, RTF, TIFF, JPEG, SVG, PNG, TPCL, ZPL, XSL-FO, XSLT or XML. Additionally, via post-processing operations, both DTM and Scriptura documents can be bundled together as one output package or document set, taking advantages of both products for what they do best. Output sorting/splitting/merging, adding bar codes/OMR codes, delivery to a specific device (fax, print, mail, archive) as well as other operations.
Thus, DTM for iSeries users can retain current DTM operations, while taking advantage of the state-of-the-art Scriptura platform to create sophisticated document templates.

Read and enhance DTM templates with Scriptura
Existing DTM templates can be read and enhanced by the Scriptura Designer. This Designer is a WYSIWYG graphical environment to design document templates without the need for any programming skills. The Scriptura Designer offers many advanced design features, like color, graphics, rotated text, charts, bar codes, dynamic images, form fields and many others. Also, create reusable objects that are created once and can be thus used in many different templates. A preview mode is provided so users can prototype, review and modify templates immediately - avoiding lengthy waits for printed output.
The Scriptura Designer requires a graphical workstation and runs on Windows, Linux, Mac and more.
Hardware requirements and integration options
Scriptura runs on any platform supporting Java 1.4 or 1.5. this includes the iSeries from IBM with i5/OS V5R2 onwards, but may also be installed on Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris and Apple Mac. And since Scriptura is completely based on open standards , it can easily and seamlessly be integrated into all existing (legacy) applications.
